small city stitches

Tiny stitches on black

I've been making more teeny tiny stitches this week, white on black for new pendants. They'll be available this Friday night at the BrisStyle indie Twilight Market in King George Square from 5-9pm and then in my shop.

New embroidered pendants will be at the BrisStyle market in King George Square on Friday night

I'm thinking about adding some more colours to the mix, maybe red, navy blue or an olive green, what do you think?

gettin' crafty: more fun diy projects

Everything you need to know about using bleach pens to design your own fabric or to pretty up already existing linen, clothing, anything.

I'm totally in love with the pants bowl, just waiting around for my pants to get holes in them so I can whip up some of these!

The DIY Globe Garland from Poppytalk has made it to my little Brown Owls Project Options list over at Pinterest as the perfect paper craft project.

Hopefully we can get someone fabulous to run a Brown Owls screen printing craft along project for 2012 but if not there's always this fab tutorial to fall back on.

And a shower cap to pop on over all those super delicious Summer salads? Yes please! Check out Allyson Hill's eco travel lid, they'd make perfect stocking stuffers too.

5 crafty diy projects for summer

I'm really looking forward to the Christmas break when (fingers and toes) I will have a little time to do the type of crafting that's just for me, oh and preparing the type of crafting that's just for 2012 Brisbane Brown Owls ;)

I'm planning on spending a lot of time with the ocean over my break so Resurrection Fern's little urchin crochet covered sea stone tutorial for The Purl Bee above is perfect beach crafting :)

The cutest softie-making project: Jodie's turtles on whipup, they're so sweet and look so easy (and earth-friendly if you make them with eco felt!!)

Got a hula hoop? And some old t-shirts? My little and somewhat bare unit could definitely do with one of these hula hoop rugs but could I do without my hula hoop while making it?

Sweetest paper craft project for origami lovers, I'd opt for some colourful old magazines or junk mail making these Japanese Kusudama flowers.

And for some Summer fun I love these jersey knit bracelets by V and Co. I imagine you could whip up some pretty cool ones with old t-shirts too.

That's five crafty projects I love and if you're on Pinterest or Twitter you can watch my little list grow. Check out the Brown Owls Project Options Pinterest Board or follow me on Twitter.

Got a favourite crafty diy? Leave me a comment, I'd love to check it out :)

vintage fabric tissue holders for @BrisStyle eco market on Saturday
new :: limited edition vintage fabric tissue holders will be at BiECO

I've been gearing up for my next market this Saturday, the BrisStyle indie Eco Market. This is by far my most favourite BrisStyle market, there's always loads of eco inspired shopping to be done as well as a tonne of vintage finds on offer (in particular I'm looking froward to Sam's vintage fabric de-stash!).

 Fun with vintage fabric
tempted to keep one of these cuties for myself

There's lots of crafty stuff to do there too including a Rags to Roses eco workshop with Steph, eco origami with Gill and a cactus pin cushion workshop with Teneale.

Working on some owly signage for the @brisstyle market on Saturday, hoot!
working on some signage for the Brown Owls marquee
And we'll be having a Brown Owls meet up there! We'll have two marquees dedicated to a crochet circle with Kate (learn crochet and check out her hand dyed yarn) and an interactive knitting installation with Chrys (check the program here). Plus Sam and I will be on hand to help out with anything else crafty. Anyone can pop in and craft away the day with us :)

BrisStyle indie Eco Market and Brown Owls meet up
This Saturday 12 November, 9am-2pm
St Augustine's Church Hall and Grounds
Racecourse Road
Hamilton

If you can't make it or you're too far away you can live through it vicariously on my twitter feed ;)

BrisStyle's last market at Hamilton for the year is set to be a glorious one. I rarely go home from a BrisStyle market empty-handed, there's so many talented local crafters who embrace everything I love about handmade.

cultiver

 hand-embroidered brooches

Just re-stocked some sweet stuff at Cultiver in Ipswich.

 embroidered zipper pouches

embroidered tissue holders

red christmas birds - lavender scented

I don't really do wholesale anymore as my priorities have shifted slightly over the last year to focus more on this fabulous organisation and this sweet group so my time working on my own practice is a little more limited.

Having said that I couldn't resist taking up the opportunity to stock with Cultiver. I love Bec and Kyla's ethos and the crafty community they have developed in Ipswich so it was a nice fit for where I'm at with my own priorities of supporting handmade.

Not only a fabulous outlet for handmade, Cultiver also hosts a really exciting program of workshops, 'Craft your own Christmas' as well as regular demos and events. It's becoming quite the hub for the creative community of Ipswich and beyond.

Well done Kyla and Bec, I'm full of warm fuzzy feelings after sending these goodies your way ;)

a bit about where paths lead

Continuation of the tiny stitches

Some people are really good at gettin' personal on their blog, me not so much. Last year was one of my most life-changing years to date but from the outside looking in you might not know it. Fortunately I put enough good energy out into the universe which led me to the one I like to call 'the most beautiful person in the world' aka country boy. That means that I get to run away to a little tree house every once in a while and stare at this.

good morning

It also means I'm more settled and more inspired to create tiny stitches about my city/country life like these.

I feel a bit like Jerry Seinfeld in that way, there's ups and downs and lots of funny bits along the way but by the end of the episode everything balances out (as opposed to George who always ends up a little worse for wear).

If you want to see what the tiny stitches end up as in person pop along to the BrisStyle indie Twilight Market on Friday night, details here. If you're not in Brisbane you can watch the process on facebook, twitter, flickr or instagram (look for edwardandlilly) over the next few days.

eco toy stuffing

"I'm full of corn!" shouts puppy.

I did a little research recently on eco toy stuffing and thought I'd pass on a couple of posts I found. I'm using corn stuffing at the moment which if you check out this excellent post you'll find out that it's 100% corn derived, has very low flammability and is non-allergenic (yay!! screams my inner hayfever/asthma/eczema self - although since I gave up dairy that's no longer an issue but it sure is nice to use a product that I know won't aggravate allergies in little ones).

Here's two excellent posts to ponder if you're thinking of giving up that petroleum-based plastic polyfil:

Oh My Green :: Eco-friendly toy stuffing
Funky Friends Factory :: Toy stuffing

And if you're using an eco toy stuffing or have some stuffing tips leave a comment, would love to know your thoughts!
