a bit about where paths lead

Continuation of the tiny stitches

Some people are really good at gettin' personal on their blog, me not so much. Last year was one of my most life-changing years to date but from the outside looking in you might not know it. Fortunately I put enough good energy out into the universe which led me to the one I like to call 'the most beautiful person in the world' aka country boy. That means that I get to run away to a little tree house every once in a while and stare at this.

good morning

It also means I'm more settled and more inspired to create tiny stitches about my city/country life like these.

I feel a bit like Jerry Seinfeld in that way, there's ups and downs and lots of funny bits along the way but by the end of the episode everything balances out (as opposed to George who always ends up a little worse for wear).

If you want to see what the tiny stitches end up as in person pop along to the BrisStyle indie Twilight Market on Friday night, details here. If you're not in Brisbane you can watch the process on facebook, twitter, flickr or instagram (look for edwardandlilly) over the next few days.

eco toy stuffing

"I'm full of corn!" shouts puppy.

I did a little research recently on eco toy stuffing and thought I'd pass on a couple of posts I found. I'm using corn stuffing at the moment which if you check out this excellent post you'll find out that it's 100% corn derived, has very low flammability and is non-allergenic (yay!! screams my inner hayfever/asthma/eczema self - although since I gave up dairy that's no longer an issue but it sure is nice to use a product that I know won't aggravate allergies in little ones).

Here's two excellent posts to ponder if you're thinking of giving up that petroleum-based plastic polyfil:

Oh My Green :: Eco-friendly toy stuffing
Funky Friends Factory :: Toy stuffing

And if you're using an eco toy stuffing or have some stuffing tips leave a comment, would love to know your thoughts!

City vs Country

Working on some new designs this week, which do you prefer city or country? I'm forever torn between the two but so far I'm making good progress working between both :)

eighth day of the week :: make your own tea bags

I really love fresh loose leaf tea especially since I've recently taken a break from my beloved coffee, in fact I'm sipping on the most delicious olive leaf and green tea as I type so when I spied this make your own tea bag tutorial I knew it had to go on my list of crafty goodness for when I'm granted my eighth day of the week.

I can think of so many good reasons for making your own tea bags, they'd make the sweetest gifts, they'd be especially cute popped in the post with Christmas cards, or in a package as a little additional handmade thank you to all the lovely Etsy shoppers out there. How nice would it be to have a handy stash of freshly blended tea bags when you're on the trot or to have a tea bag making morning tea, the possibilities are endless ;)

Plus there's loads of teas to choose from for your tea bags, here's a few that caught my eye...

All you need to know to get bagging is in these fab links:
A Beautiful Mess :: Loose leaf tea? Make your own tea bags!
Lillyella :: Tea Bags for gifts and favors (a more eco friendly version)
Crafting with Recyclables :: Tea bag notecard and envelope
Tea Wallet Tutorial very cute idea for carting your tea bags around in.

What do you think? Are you going to have a crack at it? If you do, leave me a little comment, I'd love to know how you go. And if you don't have time now you can always pop back later for all the links ;)

Happy sipping!

Chicks in Pink Fundraiser

During the month of October, aka national breast cancer awareness month I'll be donating 100% of the sale from these sweet items to Chicks in Pink as part of the BrisStyle fundraiser.

Chicks in Pink is a charity organisation which aims to raise funds which have a positive, significant and real impact on people who are affected by breast cancer. Their funds also contribute to the better understanding and treatment of breast cancer through medical research. Today, chicks in pink supports Mater Private Hospital Brisbane, Mater Private Hospital Redland, Mater Adult Hospital and Mater Medical Research Institute.

There's more BrisStylers involved and more gorgeous handmade goodies you can purchase as part of the fundraiser over here. Perfect timing to pick up some pretty Christmas gifts too!

And if you're heading to the BrisStyle Indie Mother & Child market on Saturday you can purchase them directly from my little stall at the co-op marquee.
