my creative space...

Working on custom orders tonight

It's been a busy past week both in my little sewing space and out and about in the crafty community.

Custom order finished :)

I finally finished a custom order I promised a while back, felt good to tick another thing off the list :)

Wrapped the ABC Radio building in an 840m scarf with Brown Owls, BrisStyle and the Salvation Army to raise awareness of the amazing work Salvation Army does for the homeless (the scarf will be divided up and donated to those in need).

The beautiful Sandrine of SMboutique and @histoiredesoie teaching felt-making today at Brown Owls #brownowls

Had a gorgeous morning with Sandrine from SMboutique, Brown Owls and Imogen's Art Space for a felt-making catch up.

And to round it all off I have a big pile of vintage kids hankies to contend with this morning. They were my lil sis's when she was a kid, destined to be turned into something sweet for her birthday this weekend.

Massive pile of vintage hankies from lil sis when she was a kid, need to turn them into something for her big 3-0 on the weekend...
 Any suggestions?

paper garland love

One of the many things I love about Brown Owls is taking the time out to explore a craft I've never really dabbled in before. It's great for the creative bits of my brain to take a break from stitching and learn something new. Last month we had a fab meet up making paper garlands, the one above that I'm still finding bits of time to work on, (check out the tutorial here) was my favourite, it's quick and simple and will look super cute for my market stall display. Plus you could use any shape to make them, hearts, snowflakes, clouds, the world is your oyster!

There's so many possibilities for paper garlands especially when you venture into the world of origami, here are a few of my favourites.

Guusje Appeltaart's MYO Rocket Garland Tutorial is so cute and I love that it combines handmade stamps (more on those soon) with paper craft.

Origami garlands always look really effective, I love these little stars from Currently Coveting but what I love even more is the way she cleverly uses an ombre dying effect to create gorgeous hues of blue.

Simple shapes in bold colours look equally fab, a little cutting and stitching and voila! I really love these garlands made by Weekday Carnival.

Hanging strings of paper flowers or leaves make a gorgeous back drop, these pom pom vines are so adorable hanging on trees.

And I love the use of an old branch for this backdrop, tutorial and flower template can be found at ellinée journal. Flagging this one for my little sister's wedding :)

And another great thing about paper garlands, it's an awesome way to use up paper scraps or recycle old magazines, damaged books, junk mail and newspapers, everyone wins! :)

hey maker! pop up shop

Down the range from my second home lies the gorgeous little town of Murwillumbah where you can find an incredibly talented collective of creative women who kicked butt big time on their recent Pozible campaign to enable them to re-invigorate Mur'bah with a pop up shop and work room.

I love their philosophy so much which is why, even though I don't really do wholesale/consignment anymore (other than for artist or community run ventures), I agreed immediately to stock my wares in their pop-up shop, yay :)

The pop-up shop opens this Friday with a free crochet workshop with the incredibly talented Helle Jorgenson. If you can't make it check out more info about Hey Maker! here:

my creative space... new designs

I've been spending lots of time in my space this last week working on some new designs for udessi and for the next brisstyle twilight market.

Inspired by vintage pull toys and sweet animals, it's no surprise that this little bird is my favourite so far :)

Intended for nurseries or kids rooms although I would quite happily hang them in my own room :)

Stay tuned, I have a few more sweet designs to come!

A slightly delayed thank you to Jess from bespoke for including my little tissue holder in the current issue, and next to so many lovely handmade goodies!

Jess is also running a Pozible campaign to publish the bespoke 2013 calendar, full of stunning artwork, check it out here.

pigeon embroidery

This little pigeon has finally made its way into the shop :)

my creative space... christmas preparations

Gearing up for a Christmas shoot :)

I've spent the last few weeks mostly getting ready for Christmas, seems early but for reasons that will be revealed soon, necessary :)

 Christmas prep...

I've been combining my two crafty loves, embroidery and crochet and I'm pretty happy with the outcome so far.

Another job done, now back to orders...

Recycling the stack of saved jars into these pretties makes me all the more happier and I've already found a tonne of uses for them: tea light holders, vases, pencil or knitting needle holders, the list is endless. They'll be making their way into the shop soon.

Oh, and Christmas birds are back in all their eco felty, linen, lavender scented glory :)

I've been completely indulgent in the last few weeks and have been working on some one off embroideries for the Reverse Garbage exhibition.

The exhibition opens on Saturday night and looks like a fab night out, details here.
